Awesome! How were the bugs when you went a few weeks ago? I’ve heard the mosquitos can be brutal in summer so we’ve avoided the park, but perhaps they’re not so bad?

I’m always on the lookout for new hiking friends!! I’m sure Lake Maria will become a family favorite and I can’t wait to experience it in all seasons!

I was super anxious about food as Jack tends to be a bit picky… I have found that on camping trips he is less picky than at home. I think he’s starving after all of the activity of the day and he knows that other options just aren’t available. Some of our favorite backpack meals for him are Vigo Rice and Beans (found at Cub), Velveeta Mac and Cheese (which doesn’t require any additional ingredients), Cheesy noodles (there are lots of shelf-stable cheeses out there), and Cheese, crackers, and cured meats. Basically we look for the easiest to make, tried and true favorites, and try to have as many calories as possible.
Also, we always have our trusty sandwich thins along with peanut butter and Nutella (a special treat only used while camping).
